Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros have a very special quality to them, their music is both refreshingly new but also very nostalgic. First off any song that starts with whistling automatically captures my attention and I’m immediately fully immersed in the music. Secondly this song is very reminiscent of Johnny and June Carter Cash’s duet days. Edward Sharpe and Jade Castrinos combine to make a blast from the past borrowing from classic 1960’s country and folk. Evey time I listen to their music I feel like I’m in northwest, like a 1970’s Western, walking into a lively saloon with the smell of bourbon and tobacco, tunes from the piano loudly filling the air in the room, and vulgarities heard from every corner. Maybe I have watched too much of the HBO series, Deadwood, but I can’t help to imagine that scene every time I listen to Edward Sharpe.
“Home is whenever I’m with you”
Hit the nail on the head. The finishing of the track has that nostalgic, crackly feel, making it feel like you’re listening to an old record. It’s simple, down to the instrumentation and the vocal arrangement and lyrics. Sometimes, we need a little simplicity in our lives.
